What it is

Skills you can use at home, at school, and in the community

Behavioral Skills & Development is structured, one-on-one support for building the everyday skills that make life run more smoothly: communicating needs, handling transitions, following routines, managing big reactions, taking care of yourself, and becoming more independent.

It is not a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Every program starts with an assessment of strengths, challenges, and goals, then sets measurable targets and tracks progress session by session. For children and teens, parents and caregivers learn the strategies alongside them, so what works in the session works at the kitchen table.

Amlea is a Round Rock psychology practice, so this support sits next to psychological testing, and psychotherapy. If testing or therapy would help, the same team can coordinate it.

  • Communication & learning
Functional communication, foundational learning, following instructions, and participation.
  • Behavior & daily routines
Challenging behavior, transitions, organization, and daily structure.
  • Adaptive & independent living
Self-care, household responsibilities, community participation, and functional independence.
  • Family & caregiver guidance
Practical strategies that help families support behavioral and developmental needs at home.

Who it helps

Is behavioral skills support right for you or your child?

Families usually reach out when daily life feels harder than it should. Common reasons include:

Children & teens

Meltdowns and big reactions, trouble with transitions, difficulty following directions, limited communication, school and bedtime routines that turn into daily battles, or a developmental difference such as autism or ADHD where practical skills are the next step.

Adults

Trouble with organization, time, routines, and follow-through; building independent living skills; managing day-to-day responsibilities; or learning self-regulation strategies that hold up under stress.

Parents & caregivers

You want clear, realistic strategies instead of guessing. Caregiver coaching teaches consistent responses, how to set up routines, and how to reinforce new skills so they stick.

A prior diagnosis is not required. If you are unsure what is behind the difficulty, Start Here points you to the right service, and autism, ADHD, and learning evaluations are available when a clearer answer would help.

Common questions

About behavioral skills support

Do I need an assessment before beginning a program?

Yes. Every program begins with an individualized assessment to determine appropriate goals, frequency, and duration of care.

Can I schedule only an assessment?

Yes. A standalone Behavioral and Functional Skills Assessment is $575. The rate is reduced to $375 when you enroll in a program.

How is my program selected?

Your recommended program is based on your assessment findings, individual goals, and the level of support needed. You choose from 6, 12, 18, or 24 weeks, with weekly, biweekly, or monthly sessions.

Who can benefit from behavioral skills support?

Children, adolescents, adults, and caregivers seeking help with behavioral challenges, developmental differences, communication, adaptive functioning, and everyday skills such as routines, transitions, self-care, and independence.

Is a diagnosis required to start?

No. A prior diagnosis is not required. If you already have an evaluation, bring it to the assessment. If you do not, our team can talk through whether psychological testing would also help.

Where do sessions take place?

In person at our Round Rock office, or virtually by secure telehealth, depending on the goals and what works best for the person and family. We serve families across Williamson, Bell, Coryell, and Lampasas counties.

How long is each session and what do parents do?

Sessions are 60 minutes. For children and teens, caregivers are part of the work: you learn the same strategies so progress carries over to home, school, and the community.

Does insurance cover behavioral skills services?

These services are self pay at the posted flat rates. Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed, so please ask our CareTeam before you begin. See the full fee schedule.
