Psychological Testing
Comprehensive, evidence-based psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults, delivered as one clear picture and a plan that fits real life.
What an evaluation is
A psychological evaluation is a structured way of answering a specific question: why is focus so hard, is this a learning difference, what explains these behaviors, what support would actually help. It combines a clinical interview, standardized testing, and careful clinical judgment, and it ends with a written report in plain language.
At Amlea, evaluations are multi-dimensional. Standardized measures of cognitive, academic, emotional, behavioral, and adaptive functioning are paired with a short fNIRS session that shows how the brain engages while you work. The result is a report built from more than scores on a page.
Evaluations we offer
Each evaluation is built around a specific concern. Choose the one closest to yours.
Attention, focus, and follow-through, for children, teens, and adults.
Developmental history and standardized measures, explained clearly.
Cognitive and achievement testing for school and college questions.
What parents need to know before, during, and after testing day.
Diagnostic clarity, accommodations, and specialized adult exams.
How the brain-sensing layer fits into every evaluation.
Your evaluation day
Every evaluation at Amlea follows the same deliberate sequence, so nothing about the day is a surprise.
A collaborative conversation about history, strengths, and the concerns that brought you in.
Evidence-based measures of cognitive, academic, emotional, behavioral, and adaptive functioning, chosen for the question being asked.
A built-in 15-minute pause, then a 30-minute fNIRS session that observes prefrontal activity with a soft near-infrared headband. No electrodes, no gel, no radiation.
Scores, clinical observations, and fNIRS observations come together in one written report and one plan.
The fNIRS data never diagnoses anything on its own. Every diagnosis comes from validated testing and clinical judgment. Read how the fNIRS layer works.
What the report is for
Reports answer the question that was asked and translate findings into recommendations that families, schools, physicians, and employers can act on. Amlea reports are regularly used for 504 and IEP conversations, college disability offices, workplace accommodation documentation, and treatment planning with your own providers.
If care is the next step, testing connects directly to psychotherapy at Amlea and, when appropriate, to psychiatric medication management through our integrated care partnership.
Amlea is a Heart Galleries of Texas Phase III Post-Adoption Grant recipient, providing comprehensive psychological evaluations and psychotherapy at no cost to eligible post-permanency families across Texas. See the program details.
Common questions
Yes. Amlea evaluates children, adolescents, and adults. The measures change with age and with the question, and the CareTeam will confirm the right evaluation for your situation when you reach out.
The fNIRS headband uses near-infrared light to read blood-flow activity in the prefrontal cortex. It only measures. Nothing is sent into the brain, and there are no electrodes, gel, or radiation. It adds context to your report; your diagnosis always comes from validated testing and clinical judgment.
Amlea offers both in-person and secure telehealth appointments. When you book, the CareTeam will tell you which parts of your evaluation happen in the office and which can happen by telehealth.
